Wow, the waves have been amazing here at home. Been surfing the Superbank everyday since last Monday. It was flat pretty much the whole time. I’ve been home since J-Bay before that.

So it’s been excellent training for trying out boards and barrel riding, that’s pretty much all you could do – it’s just been draining.

I only have a week ’til I leave for Cali for the Boost contest; can’t wait I’m frothin’. It’s been so good all this home time, but I’m itching to get over there and put a contest singlet on,

Cheers,

Bede

New Knee Cap & New Bill Johnson Shooters

Just got the go-ahead from the doctor! Bone is fully healed back together. Although it’s been straight for about a month so moving it is really stiff but should be all good in a week. Had some atrophy so need to build the muscles back up around the knee.

Going to pick up 5 new Teqoph surfboards today so will get those stickered up and start getting back into the game.

The past couple of weeks I was hanging poolside in Florida trying to stay cool. Has been really hot on the East Coast but that is pretty typical. Waves have been really bad in Florida which was a good thing for me. Hung out at the shop talking crap with my friends.

Savanna is walking now and is such a funny little girl.

Peace.

Waves have been pretty bad here, but it’s pumping like mad now.

Well, ya wouldn’t read about my last couple of weeks; took ages to get over the infected foot; and back in the water today at pumping Snapper, I burst me bloody ear drum (heavy!).

Jeez, it’s injury central on the WPS blogs at the moment. This is somewhere at home, mighty Richmond River country, on one of the few sessions between the foot and the ear.

Never done it before and shit it hurts like mad!!! Doc reckons not too bad, I should be back in the water in two weeks, just in time for Trestles. Sweet tip for the day – don’t jump forward in the barrel.

All good though, might even go snowboarding.

Speak soon,

Willsy

HOLIDAY AT HOME

Sted’s Blog
Yer Boyzzzz and Ladyies,
South Africa was my last event and since then I’ve come home to Sydney and have been hiding out lately in bars watching some crazy bands. I saw my sister play in her first ever live gig in Manly. I’m sure I’m biased but she was super dope.

My sis Bonnie on guitar and her friend Sam on their first gig. So cool.

I’ve also been watching all the Members from the Goons Of Doom play in some side projects. Last night I went and saw Vaughn Dead and Cut Throat Cowboy play in their new band The Yellow Belly Black Snakes. It was unreal. Playing some old hits like Girls Who Like Boys and some of their own songs. They’ve only been together for a few days and already sounding like they have been together for years. Love those guys.

Home time is awesome for the soul. When you’re away for so many months of the year and then you get some time off, you make the most of it. I have been so pumped to do some things that stimulate me. After a while you just need to take a break from what you do every day. I mean I’ve still been surfing almost every day but I have been surfing with Dads and school friends and best mates and it’s a different sort of surfing. You dont care if you fall off or drop in. You just surf and laugh at each other.

Have also been working for a long time on some signature thongs for Havaianas. It’s taken some serious time to get the things but it’s been worth the wait. I got the samples the other day and I’m super pumped on them. It’s been fun working on them and now I finally get to throw them on my feet.

Me and my new thongs. You know what? I’m going to start my own competition. The person who first can tell me what it says in my thong I’ll send some to. Seriously.

I have about two weeks before Lowers starts and I’m pretty frothing now. Like Bede says in his column, being at home is like recharging the batteries. Mine are nearly fully charged. I feel like that silly bunny who bangs the drum. Boom boom boom boom!!!

I’ve been home three weeks now it’s been sooo good.Been going up to my home Straddie most weekends and catching up with my family and friends. I love going over there and just hanging out and going fishing and relaxing pretty much.

There has not been much on the surf side of things though, it hasn’t got above 3 foot since I got home. I’m not complaining too much though, it’s good to have a little break sometimes and recharge the batteries. I’ve still been doing my training regime, getting ready for Trestles. I’m really looking forward to that event.

Straddie in battery recharging mode, lately there’s been nothin’ huge but when it looks this good sometimes it doesn’t matter.

I’m just about to go walk my dog, she’s looking at me like hurry-up-get-off-the-computer. So I’ll talk to you again soon.

EAR, NOSE & THROAT = CRAPTASTIC             EELS & SWANS = FANTASTIC

Filed under: Kai Otton — wpssuperblog @ 9:43 pm

Yeah kids. Wow, feels like I haven’t surfed for months … since my heat at J-Bay I’ve surfed five times I think.

I had stitches in my eye after my heat with Trent. No surf for a week. I went home from there incubating the worst flu of all time. It hit me down south in Tathra and I then passed it on to all my mates down there, (sucked in, ha ha) they were spewin’! Some of them had the week off work, it was real nasty. Kept me out of the surf for 10 days too.

I came good and went training on the Goldy but it was flat like a pancake, so no surf for that week which brings me up to now. I just got out of hospital after having my Surfer’s Ear operated on. Painful op and another two to three weeks out of the water. Tell ya what I’m going to be absolutely frothin’ for Trestles. A break always does ya good.

By the way, how good has the football been? Some crazy games being played coming into finals time. Go the mighty Swans!!! Go the mighty Eels!!!

Still been hanging low in California. Went to the Dr. and took some X-rays and the knee-cap bone is healing together nicely and should be surfing hopefully in 3-4 weeks.

Last night went up to Ventura and Tim Curran had a surprise 30th birthday party which was really fun.

Going back to Florida in a few days to hang then head back out here to get ready for the Boost Comp. Was hoping to take a trip to Indo during this time off but it will probably have to wait …

Peace.

HERO TO ZERO

Filed under: CJ Hobgood — wpssuperblog @ 8:29 pm

From Hero to Zero … still can’t figure out surfing. At the US Open I finally made it into a man-on-man heat in a ‘QS event. The pier was busy with too many people drinking energy drinks with spray on tattooes.

No luck in Japan but did OK in Cali.

Winning there was bittersweet. I’ve competed in HB for 10 years waiting for that day. My wife and daughter pushed through the masses to watch each day and cheer me on.

Feeling great about that event I headed to Japan for a shocking-ly bad time. I lost first heat and was in the country for only two days … My Japanese visa to get in took longer. That’s surfing. Home sweet home for a week and then off to France. Fingers crossed.

KINGS OF CRUNK

Here is the shot — Booooooooooom. Old frog skins Rule!!! o yeah that’s lil john!!

Here is the shot — Booooooooooom. Old frog skins Rule!!! o yeah that’s lil john!!

OK, blog time. It’s been a while and I am sorry but little Tommy Whits hasn’t been in the best of health! There was some stinky bug going around in J-Bay which got me good and proper. Loaded up on painkillers for my heat, I felt OK, just the waves didn’t go my way, and in surfing u get that!

No time to dwell though, just take a moment and see what u could have done different, learn and then move the hell on. It’s only halfway through the year so it’s still game on.

The long trip home didn’t do the health much help (downside of travel), and I was struck down with the flu pretty damn bad, lots of water and sweating and I was on another flight to The States for the US Open. I’m not going to do the WQS but it’s a good contest to hang out with your sponsors and enjoy a bit of summer! The waves were terrible and I tried to sit down the beach on Machado’s bank … Oh well. again the waves didn’t go my way but u can’t get too down with our lifestyle.

I planned to hang around for a couple of reasons, (1) I enjoy the warmth and good times with some great people I have met over the years, (2) get some sessions out Trestles – it’s only five weeks away — and get a head start on trying boards out there.

Well the good times were first, as the swell was hitting later and one of the things about The States is u never know what or who you’re going to rock out with.

Last year we partied in Hollywood at a well-known celeb hang out, silly little surfers were blind drunk mixing it with five or six big name celebs, ha ha ha the perks of knowing a few people!

This year I had a signing on the first day I felt half decent. It was a circus and after it we grabbed a table at a Mexican for a feed and some margaritas! Well, being sponsored by Oakley has its huge extras, we ended up rocking out with a Rapper Lil John (who also wears Oakley) all afternoon, getting on the sip and laughing our way around lots of establishments!

Boom, it was a bangin’ afternoon and I would like to fill u in on all the detail but some stuff is just better left to the imagination.

Few days later I had dealt with the hangover and organised a session at Trestles, waves had come up and it was really fun, surfed for three and a half hours straight, tried two boards out and feel good about it! Off to the airport that night for a red eye home, business class … Wicked I’ll get some sleep!

Slept well but think I went a little hard too early. The sickness has attacked again and I am bedridden with Broncitis! Oh well, I have a good month to get over it, get fit and come out blazing for the second half of the year because as I said its time to pull the finger out and get back up those ratings!

Hope it’s an OK read, did my best with how I’m feeling (whinge, whinge, etc).

Catch ya soon.

Whits.
